Experiencing a Japanese-style Fantasy: A New Take on Restaurant Design

Chia-Hung Weng's Award-Winning Design Merges Tradition and Innovation

In the world of interior design, Chia-Hung Weng stands out with his unique approach to creating spaces that blend traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern technology. His recent project, a hot pot restaurant in Taoyuan City, Taiwan, is a testament to his innovative style, earning him the prestigious Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017.

Chia-Hung Weng's design inspiration stems from the beauty that arises from the clash between traditional Japanese imagery and contemporary technology. He uses an artistic technique known as "intuitive space" to capture the attention and curiosity of the client. This technique employs the strength of overlap and transparency to create a visually engaging environment.

What sets this design apart is its ability to evoke emotions and inspire imaginations. Weng uses modern technology to reinterpret the human spirit of the Japanese, resulting in an effect that is contradictory yet harmoniously interactive. This has become the hallmark of his innovative style. The client's support for this idea, which releases the energy of design and seeks new ideas of space art, demonstrates a harmonious cooperation between the client and designer.

The realization of this design was achieved through the use of existing square lattice brick pavements and a chain link fence that extends to a diamond grille ceiling at the arcade. This creates a foundation of architecture that is effusive in its expression. The facade of the building is partitioned with rectangles of different sizes, adding to the visual interest of the space.

The interior of the restaurant is a blend of contemporary Japanese-style exposed concrete and black elements that represent the silhouette of the objects within the space. This combination of cold-blue frames, white layered surfaces, and bright lights transforms the restaurant into a space of renewed vigor and technology.

One of the challenges faced in this design was creating a single point perspective using a combination of lines. This reorganized the configurations and stimulated physical reactions within the space. The effect of 3D radiations, created by the top and bottom snaps from the black cables on both sides, brings into existence a penetrative boundary.

In conclusion, Chia-Hung Weng's design for the hot pot restaurant is a perfect example of how traditional aesthetics can be reinterpreted through modern technology to create a space that is both engaging and inspiring. His innovative approach to design has not only earned him accolades but also set a new benchmark in the field of interior design.
